Lincoln Center, New York, is hosting an Amitabh Bachan festival from April 9-18th, which includes some of his best films and an appearance by the movie god himself. The festival writeup bathes Bachan with loving accolades, relying on market stats to support what every South Asian already knows:

A BBC survey recently confirmed ... Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan is the most popular film star in the world, the most recognized face, the biggest box-office draw.

Movies include old goldies like Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), and the newly minted Black (2005). According to the BBC:

The festival will feature highlights from 62-year-old's catalogue of more than 140 films from four decades as one of Bollywood's biggest stars.

But it seems that when it came to the sub-titles to all the movies, it was the megastar's wife who came to the rescue. Jaya Bachan worked with festival organizers on making sure that all the subtleties of Bollywood cinema were not lost in translation.
