Penn inks for spot in new '24' plot

Kal Penn has joined the cast of Fox's action drama "24" as a recurring. The "Harold & Kumar" star will play a guy who is somehow involved with the Islamic guru running the neighborhood mosque and might be the key to a terrorist plot.

Penn, along with John Cho, toplined New Line Cinema's 2004 comedy "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" and is attached to the upcoming sequel, "Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam." Penn, whose most recent credits include the feature "Superman Returns" and ABC's untitled Danny Comden comedy pilot, next stars in the feature comedy "Van Wilder 2: Rise of the Taj," a sequel to the 2002 film "Van Wilder" film centered on Penn's character Taj. Penn is repped by the Gersh Agency, Dan Spilo of Artistry Management and attorney Michael Fuller.
