Big-B out from hospital: Dharmendra has heart attack

"Mumbai, Dec 17 Megastar Amitabh Bachchan today returned home after hospitalisation of more than 20 days for intestinal ailment, giving relief to thousands of his fans as well as the film industry which invested crores of rupees on his films, advertisements and talk shows.
Amitabh, who was operated for diverticulitis of small intestine on November 30, was discharged from Lilavati Hospital at 11.15 am today, and hospital sources said the 63-year-old actor was resuming normal health.
His family friend and Samajwadi party leader Amar Singh told the media that Amitabh was fit and "it was now up to him to decide when to resume work."
Clad in white Kurta-Pyjama, Amitabh accepted cheers and waved at his fans who gathered in large numbers outside the hospital to catch a glimpse of their favourite star.
From hospital, Amitabh, accompanied by actor-son Abhishek, daughter Shweta, Amar Singh and Sahara group chief Subrato Roy, drove straight to his old bungalow 'Prateeksha' to seek blessings of his aged mother Teji Bachchan.
Fans gathered outside his new bungalow 'Jalsa', where Amitabh stays now-a-days with family, faced disappointment as the actor did not turn up there, and sources said he has decided to stay at 'Prateeksha' for at least some more time.
Family sources also said that Amitabh had a sandwich in the morning after his return from hospital and a normal lunch.
Amitabh took ill soon after a function at Delhi in the last week of November and was hospitalised at Escorts Heart Institute there. He was later flown to Mumbai and admitted at the Lilavati.
Amitabh was operated on November 30 for diverticulitis of small intestine. Doctors at the hospital said that the ailment was one of rare occurrences and could have proved fatal if not attended on time.
Amitabh's sudden illness had caused uneasiness among the Bollywood and TV industry, where nearly Rs 200 crore-worth projects on Amitabh were at stake. Apart from nearly half a dozen films, Amitabh has also signed for numerous ads and TV shows.
With the doctors initially stating that Amitabh may not get back to his work for at least a month, future of his popular tri-weekly show, "Kaun Banega Crorepati-2", was at stake since the producers did not have enough pre-recorded episodes to continue the series on TV till his return.
The KBC-2 producers even announced to curtail their show from tri-weekly to bi-weekly so as to continue the programme till the star's return.
But these producers and film-makers are likely to be taken by surprise, with Amar Singh today telling the media that the megastar was "fit and fine" and "it was now up to him to decide when to resume work."
While the megastar lay in the ICU of Lilavati, the entire Bollywood showed solidarity and wished him health and speedy recovery. Virtually every known face in Bollywood visited Amitabh to wish him health.
With lakhs of his fans anxiously keeping tab on his health, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also dashed off a letter to Amitabh wishing him a speedy recovery.
The immense popularity of the megastar was evident with the large gathering of fans outside the hospital every day. Even a guest-book maintained by the Bachchan family at the hospital to record good wishes of visitors and fans, is almost full.
Amitabh has promised that he would go through the guest-book and personally write back to his well-wishers for wishing him health and recovery.
Meanwhile, tight security prevailed at both bungalows as steady stream of visitors started pouring in to meet the superstar.
Mohammed Junaid, a look-alike of ace batsman Sachin Tendulkar, waited eagerly for Bachchan outside 'Jalsa'. "I am a great fan of Bachchan," he said.
Sheikh Sharif Maula Saheb, a 22-year-old physically challenged youth, who hails from Udgir Taluka in Latur district of Marathwada region, also waited for the actor.
Holding a garland in his hand, Sheikh said, "I have been camping here since last four days. I am thankful to god for showering blessings on Amitabhji. I am his great fan and shall not move from here till I garland him."
Mohali, Dec 17 Film star-turned-MP Dharmendra suffered a mild heart attack late on Friday night.
He was admitted to a private hospital in Mohali but was however discharged after few medical tests, hospital sources said.
