SUV Envy!

Mitsubishi Outlander
By Ashok Kalia
The latest Outlander arrives at a time when many families are moving away from SUV’s towards people carriers and estate cars because of mounting pressure from the green extremists.
If cars are being judged on how damaging they are to the environment solely on their physical size and fuel consumption then the all new Outlander is about to change all that.
No bigger than a Ford Mondeo, able to carry seven people and returning nearly 40 miles to the gallon by switching between two and four wheel drive and with the lowest emissions in its class; proves that the Outlander is better than many family cars available today.
The luxurious and trendy inside is crammed with the latest gadgets such a keyless entry, a 30 GB multimedia system and a rear facing camera which is a god send when parking.
Ranging from £19.5k to £24.8 the Outlander only comes in a 2.0 litre diesel engine with a manual gear box. The difference in price simply relates to the levels of trim and equipment. 0 to 60 mph is a respectable 11 seconds and a top speed of 116mph means its more than capable in most everyday road conditions.
Sadly it’s not all plain sailing; some of the interior plastics are amazingly cheap feeling for a car of this class and the Volkswagen sourced engine can prove to be rough at times, but the biggest problem for Mitsubishi Outlander is that the SUV market at this price level is already very competitive.
But with all that said the Outlander is a serious contender and it’s environmentally friendly too! Honest.
